Little Voices Finally Heard
Around three million cases of child abuse are reported in the United States every year (Schwartz). Some people would read that and say that's not even an issue, but it is. Children that are abused are so afraid of adults that they don't tell anyone that they are being abused in some way. This could cause them even more pain because they can't trust anyone so they will always be in danger of being abused.
Holding their feelings in is never good for younger children ("Defining"). Most of the cases that people report about child abuse are reported by the child that is being abused. What's really sad is that some of the cases that get reported aren't seen as serious so they get put at the bottom of the list and by the time that the detectives can look at their case, it might be too late.
There are four main types of abuse, and they are as follows “Child Neglect.” That is not caring our providing for the child, not giving them food, water, clothing, shelter, ignoring them, or not giving them attention and the love that they need ("Defining").
The second type is called Physical Abuse. That can include when parents beats, whips, burns, kicks, shakes, punches, or harms the child with intent to harm them. Spanking is considered okay, unless if the child is hurt (KUMPER).
The next type of abuse is Sexual Abuse. That is when the parent molests, rapes, or inappropriately touches the child. Usually, the person or child that was abused sexually, knows their molester. The final type of child abuse is Emotional Abuse. It includes rejecting, terrorizing, refusing to give the child food or sleep or exposing them to domestic violence in their life (MILLER).
